The walls are alive! With the newly celebrated mural commissioned
for the Public House comes movement, warmth, color and tribute.
Artist Gene Sorensen gathered the likes of some of our most
esteemed icons. Derek Jeter, Jerry Garcia, Kurt Cobain and
Jimmy Buffet are in attendance. A superhero named Brigette,
many beloved staff members, portraits of the American family
at leisure and several mutts each with their own dog day-dream,
name a few who dot the melting pot that now vividly befriends
all who enter The Public House. Even Joe Kuhn, the building
constructor, has a post from which to haunt.
Southsound
artist Sorensen's work can be viewed at The Swiss in Tacoma,
The Green Turtle in Gig Harbor, and The Urban Onion in Olympia
and in many private Northwest collections. Painting since
a child, Gene attended Central State University in Ellensburg
majoring in Art. His validation as an artist came last year
when one of his pieces became a Tacoma Art Museum acquisition.
His cast of inspiration includes diametrically opposed influences
such as Monet, Warhol, Leroy Neuman, and Van Gogh. Marking
his own path, Gene prefers to work in acrylic rather than
oil.
Though
not a resident, Gene can be found footprinting the PT beachfront,
admiring the 19th century architecture and relishing the
cozy demeanor of our community. He is fascinated by the
new social interlude that Internet employment has created
between small town America and metropolitan refugees. At
47, he heartily partakes in snowboarding and an active pursuit
of a plethora of live music. Gene's goal is "to never
grow up yet allow his adult façade to place him at
the front of the line where your can get the cookies while
they are still warm."
Gene
Sorensen & his dog, Chip just became permanent additions
to The Public House family last week. We welcome him and
invite you to stop by and introduce yourself.
Gene
will appear at Gallery Walk on April 3, 2004 and can be
